So here it is, my blog. I’ve been contemplating doing this for over a year now since I first joined The Landscape Juice Network but I have always had doubts to why I should write one.The honest reason is because I have read that writing a blog with a good title, links and pictures will create interest in me and the work I’m involved in and therefore, in time, will give us more business and therefore more money. Now here’s the first problem, more business and more money will undoubtedly make it easier to pay the bills and buy nice things but more business will mean creating a larger company with more employees, more problems to solve and more bills to pay. I’m also not a materialistic person. The second problem is I do most of my thinking about life when I’m having a shower in the mornings. I’m sorry this may not be a good image for my potential readers but that’s where it happens, I don’t get time to think about life at other times.I have summed up my shower thoughts and I think 80% of them are, and I can’t believe I’m saying (writing) this, about being middle aged. There I’ve come out with it. This isn’t an issue, I’ve had at least three mid life crisis before and I’m only 45, my birthday is in March so I’m bound to have another one soon. The issue is; will I be writing about interesting things in my landscaping life such as what mix of concrete I used in the week or will I be writing about being a middle aged gardener type of person. The answer is above; most of what I have written so far is about getting wrinkly before I’m ready.Due to the snow and ice, which makes everything look beautiful but I’m getting bored of, there hasn’t been any landscaping or gardening stuff going on this week, so I can’t write about my 5 in 1 mix and the difference in colour and textures of sands from different parts of the country. While Jill, my wife, partner in business and best friend, is sunning herself in Lanzarote with the girls, I have been trying to get to grips with the web site. I’m booked in to remove some small trees from a clients garden next week so I might be able to enlighten you with the joys of working in sub zero temperatures next week, if I can get my truck tyres to grip on rink outside the house. So that’s one new years resolution sorted – to start a blog. My other is to stop playing FreeCell, the computer card game thing. I’ve managed 4 days so far. I gave up smoking 19 years ago so this should be easy.Simon

  • Welcome to the blogosphere! It wasn't so bad, was it?

Now the hard part - you have to keep updating it…
  • Thanks Keith, I'm looking forward to doing the next one. I wonder whether I will feel the same when we're flat out later in the year.
  • You should have some nice shots of finished work to use by then. Late summer evening, cool beer, half an hour's typing, couple of pics, done!
  • Welcome to my wrinkly world!
  • Thanks Claudia, I might start writing about mens grooming
  • No worries there Colin, I usually fall asleep after a few halves.
  • Mens grooming and falling asleep. Can't wait to read about it!!

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

Thought I'd sign up to this forum. And I hope I'm allowed to post stuff for sale on here as this will be a one off? I have for sale a tiny pro robot, it's not the new edition but it's the bigger one of the two. If anyone is interested then please…

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"
