Police in North Surrey are appealing for the public's help in tracing a conman who tricked an elderly woman out of money in New Haw.
The man called at the victim's home in Keston Avenue at around 3.30pm on Thursday 13 February offering to carry out gardening work.
The woman asked him if he could fix her fence and the suspect quoted her £60 before following her inside and taking the cash. He disappeared saying that he was going to get his tools but failed to return.
The man is described as white, in his late 40s to early 50s, around 5ft 2ins tall and of slim build. He had small facial features, short greying hair and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a black jacket with a thick horizontal stripe on the front and back, possibly with writing through the stripe.
PC Helen Otter said: "This man targeted an elderly woman in her own home and we are carrying out a number of enquiries to track him down.
"I am appealing for anyone who recognises his description or was in the area at the time and witnessed any suspicious activity to come forward.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45140011095 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. - See more at: http://www.surrey.police.uk/news/news-stories/news-items/article/8694/police-appeal-for-witnesses-after-woman-conned-to-pay-for-bogus-gardening-work#sthash.Yn5pJqX7.dpuf
