Show gardens and children do mix

Well May is nearly on us and its time to put pen to paper and let everyone know how the Sandringham show garden is progressing. So far it has been going slowly, as have I, trying to walk when your in the latter stages of pregnancy is difficult enough let alone trying to pull apart large heavy wooden pallets. Despite this I have managed to construct several areas of the garden as well as securing donations of wood chip from MJ Tree services who do the tree work for Sandringham (I didn't know this at the time I contacted them), plastic pots and wooden cable reels form EDF Energy who have a depot just up the road from my home..I have also managed to grow 600-700 plants which will form the pool of plants I will be able to choose from for the garden. Yes I have really let myself in for it this time, its my first show garden and I am growing all of the plants as well. Now you have probably guessed the type of garden its going to be and if not well then it will be a surprise. My baby daughter was born at 3.16 am on April the 3rd just in time to clash with the designers meeting at Sandringham on the same date. My other daughter is helpfully making some additions to my final design drawings as we speak but at least she has stopped trying to feed my seedlings to the guinea pigs. Now I know I said that children and show gardens do mix, well my two boys are proof as they have been very keen on helping me de-construct the wooden pallets and definitely deserve a mention for there help in moving said pallets around. I have roped my husbands removal company into moving everything to the site for me making this a truly family affairHopefully from now on things will run a little more smoothly.

Thought I'd sign up to this forum. And I hope I'm allowed to post stuff for sale on here as this will be a one off? I have for sale a tiny pro robot, it's not the new edition but it's the bigger one of the two. If anyone is interested then please…

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "

"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"

"Agree, nothing worse than driving past a new Cherry Laurel hedge planted too close to boundaries or buildings, and thinking they'll regret that decision in a few years time!
If a client really wants Laurel, i atleast try to push them towards the…"
