Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Wisley have purchased a Makita PLM4631 mower.
Peter Anderson, Machinery Manager at Wisley, selected the Makita mower following trials with a variety of machines. “This Makita with three horsepower and 46mm cut is perfectly sized for us and the mulching kit will be useful when we are cutting the longer, rough areas at the back of the gardens.”
The self-propelled PLM4631 rotary mower has a 190cc 4-stroke engine with single speed gearbox with a central height control lever that can adjust the cut between 20mm and 75mm in 8 positions. The 60-litre grass collection box has mesh sides to exhaust air pressure which packs cuttings tighter. The operating controls are full width and the starting pull cord handle is positioned halfway up the handles so that the operator does not have to bend down to engine height to reach the cord. The handlebars fold for easy transport.
The Makita PLM4631 joins an expanding fleet of Makita machines selected by the RHS gardens team. This mower joins petrol engine strimmers and 36v cordless hedge cutters that have proved high performance tools for the professional staff at RHS Wisley.
