Pewter Cobbles wins Natural Paving gold

Natural Paving Products (UK) Ltd’s new Pewter Cobbles have been incorporated into a gold medal-winning garden at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2015.

The company has teamed up with fellow BALI member Greenbelt Landscapes to support garden designers Anna Murphy and Sarah Jarman of design partnership JarmanMurphy in creating their impressive first show garden, which received excellent feedback from the judging panel.

‘A Quiet Corner’ is a striking mixture of traditional and modern elements, designed to bring the peace and tranquillity of the countryside into an urban setting.  Encircled by a sweeping rendered wall that echoes the pewter tones in the paving, the cobbles create a curved pathway leading to an enclosed seating area, surrounded by naturalistic planting.

“We wanted to create a peaceful space that transports the busy urban dweller to a more rural setting and we chose the paving to bridge the gap between these classic and contemporary aesthetics, as well as giving a nod to the traditional cobbled streets of many country villages,” commented Anna Murphy.

Sarah Jarman continued: “The cobbles also worked well in terms of the scale of the overall design and allowed us to create a smooth curve that adds to the dramatically geometric layout of the garden.  The fact that they are also a little irregular in shape and tone was another appealing factor, as they blend nicely and help to create the contrast between hard lines and softer features that we were trying to achieve.”

Having worked with Natural Paving Products many times before, Greenbelt Landscapes were quick to recommend the company’s Pewter Cobbles and Pavetuf Jointing Compound in the Buff finish to the designers, knowing that they would deliver the required quality and aesthetic appeal.

“We are part of Natural Paving Products’ Approved Landscaping Professionals scheme, so we know their products inside out and knew that they would meet our client’s design brief,” commented Belinda Belt from Greenbelt Landscapes.  “We’re really happy with the way the garden has turned out and of course, winning a gold medal is a fantastic achievement.”

New for 2015, the Pewter Cobbles are a contemporary mix of grey sandstone with occasional hints of soft brown tones.  Available in three sizes that can be mixed to create a visually appealing non-uniform effect, the Pewter colourway is the latest addition to Natural Paving Products’ existing cobble range, which also includes Calico and Meadow sandstone and a classic Ebony limestone.

Malcolm Gough, Business Development Director at Natural Paving Products commented: “We love supporting and collaborating with our fellow BALI and Approved Landscaping Professionals members on these kinds of projects, as it allows us to support the people that work with and specify our products day in, day out. We are especially proud that our new Pewter Cobbles have been used for the first time in such a beautiful setting – Greenbelt Landscapes and JarmanMurphy have collaborated to create a stunning garden.”

"Of course they are more akward to carry, but using a regular ladder now feels preposterous.

Well one clear advantage they have, they stand up by themselves.…"
