Drivers at landscape products group Marshalls went on 24-hour strike in a “last resort” protest over rates of pay.
Placard-waving protesters were asking vehicles to turn back at the gates at the Eaglescliffe depot at Durham Lane today, joining depots across the UK in the row about overtime pay.
LGV drivers that deliver to customers from 14 manufacturing sites across the UK receive time and a third for overtime worked, while Marshalls manufacturing employees get time and a half.
Unite says members have been further angered over an 87% rise in Marshalls chief executive Martin Coffey’s remuneration package last year, taking it to more than £2m a year - and a rise in the company’s profits and dividends to shareholders.
