LAWN CUTTING CHARGES

Hi everyone,I haven't started yet but I am finding the blogs etc on this site very interesting !! Keep asking each other questions !!The blog on charges caught my eye but are we saying that a lawn cut comes in at £15 a time? I guess not so how do you rate this type of job if they dont want anything else and its only going to take you 15mins? Is there a minimum charge?Do you just make sure there are other jobs very close by?Be pleased to hear any responses.Sandra

  • Definately minimum of £15 pounds. Doesn't matter how long it takes. It's just the way it is. When you go to the hairdressers/barbers its a set price - you wouldn't argue it only took 10 mins - you just pay or don't get it done. Period.

Of course we all get folk who chance their arm - generally they will agree after a polite explanation of machinery, travel, insurance, winter...etc..

And, yes, try to get other customers in the same street/area so you can cut down on 'wasted' time. A friend who does solely grass cutting uses a flier with a space on it where from house to house he inserts price for individual gardens - it seems to work.
  • I bought my first trailer off a guy who did nothing but cut grass, he was netting over £500 a day in grass cutting rounds, and paying his 2 staff just a total of £96 a day. Which possibly explained the 2 new land rovers on his driveway.
  • Nice for some !! ( I wonder what he does in the Winter ?Do you think this was all Commercial contacts?

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "

"Yes 5' actual instant shaped hedging is very expensive, but if that's what he wants he'll have to pay for it.  A good compromise is use individual plants- you could use 1.5m, but 1.8 or 2m plants would probably be bushier, and by trimming to height…"
