Folkestone’s Triennial Festival this year had an exciting addition; the opening ceremony for Payers Park, a £1.35m development recently completed by Ground Control.
The 30 week design and build included piling works, in-situ concrete walls and structures, soil remediation works, structural steel, 278 works, new external lighting, resurfacing, and soft landscaping to provide the location community with a beautiful new park and play area in the heart of Folkestone.
1720 tonnes of soil were removed from the site to make it more accessible and friendly, and a hazard warning membrane was installed on the steep slopes, which were the biggest challenge during the building work. The extensive concrete works and sandstone blocks are supported with 268 piles, which took 3 weeks to install.
An upper boardwalk made of sandstone was built into the steep gradient offering a new pedestrian link to the High Street, offering a safe and well-lit access to shops and cafes. Payers Park Road has also been realigned as part of the development.
Practical completion was finished with hours to spare on the day of the opening ceremony, but using the right people ensured that the project ran smoothly and on time. The CEO of The Creative Foundation stated that he looks forward to future collaborations.
