Graeme Mann - Landscape Juice featured member

A good network is only as good as its members; now with over 1,100, the Landscape juice Network's success relies on the wealth of information and experience that is added by members. Surveys suggest that only 1% of any social group are creators and actively add new content at any one time, whilst a further 9% adopt an editing or modifying role; the remaining 90% are lurkers and readers it's called 90-9-1 principle. One member who is very much in the 1% bracket is Graeme Mann of The BGS Group - Graeme's deep knowledge and passion for his profession readily shines through; he always has time to stop and help fellow maintenance and landscaping practitioners, either with a link to useful information or from the deep reservoir of his knowledge, accumulated over many years in horticulture and turf management. Graeme's background is accounting and this has proved to be a valuable resource, shared with fellow members on LJN - it's sometimes a thankless task being in the one percent bracket but Graeme carries it off with good grace and is a much valued member of the Landscape Juice Network. The BGS Group carries out domestic and commercial lawn, garden and estate maintenance around Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey.

  • sound good ! thanks Graeme - lots of good advice .
  • Great idea Phil and a great first endorsement in Graeme Mann - he phoned me out of the blue in December last year to help me with some artificial lawn advice and spent around 45 minutes explaining what my options were; he then remained in contact by email offering further advice and answering my questions - a great guy!!

    Well done Graeme!

"I wouldn't cut a hedge without one. Anything over 6' you should get with 3 adjustable legs, otherwise they can be unstable if you lean - but positioned correctly they are the only way.

"Yes had that scenario where you can't reach a fiddly bit no matter what ladder and have to balance on the apex of a shed roof or do best job painstakingly with a long reach pole pruner . "

"I'm very wary of these tripod ladders, I took a life changing fall from the top of a 12ft tripod. Now I only use them myself with great care. The issue is that they are very unstable at the top if you lean to either side, and they go with no…"

"the tripods are good but in some scenarios the wide base and the fact the 3rd leg has to be placed some distance away from the step part for stability makes this large foot print impractical eg when cutting hedge behind a shed or greenhouse with…"

"Tripods are better than any other ladder that's a fact. You can cut hedges that are lower than the ladder but it is more awkward, I have a 6ft amd a 12 foot been using both for the last 15yrs and haven't come stuck yet. Believe me once you've had…"
