The government has published its heatwave plan for 2013, with those working outdoors receiving special mention.
Public Health England says the plan is designed to increase organisational, public and professional awareness of the potential dangers to health from severe hot weather.
While warning that high temperatures can be dangerous, especially for people who may be particularly vulnerable such as older people, young children and those with serious illnesses.
The plan does highlight that people undertaking outdoor activities should attempt to keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, and if you do go out wear a hat, as well as light, loose-fitting cotton clothes.
The heatwave plan advises that should someone be suffering from heatstroke it can develop very suddenly, and rapidly lead to
unconsciousness, saying if you suspect someone has heatstroke, call 999 immediately.
While waiting for the ambulance if possible, move the person somewhere cooler, increase ventilation, cool them down by sprinkling them with cold water or wrapping them in a damp sheet.
If they are conscious, give them water or fruit juice to drink, but do not give them aspirin or paracetamol.
