Forest Garden to double output

Due to encouraging early season sales and a more optimistic trading outlook the UK’s leading manufacturer of garden timber products, Forest Garden, will this month be introducing a second shift to its manufacturing programme to increase production levels during the peak spring season. As demand for stock is set to reach its peak in the lead up to the key Easter and May bank Holiday weekends, fast-selling product groups such as fencing will benefit from the increased time and workforce that will be brought in to boost production output.John Gomersall, sales and marketing director at Forest Garden said: “The spring and early summer period are key for garden timber sales. Demand for products in the run up to this window increase dramatically, and we want to ensure that we have the capacity and man power to meet it. The second shift will ensure that all our customers have good access to our wide range of core and decorative timber products for the coming season.”During the second shift implementation, production of Forest’s fence panels will double to over 50,000 units per week. The additional 130 staff recruited to support this additional capacity will also help to boost shed production to over 4,000 units per week, and support up to 75 lorry loads of product being dispatched everyday.John Gomersall added: “The peak spring and Easter periods are an exciting and busy time for us. The introduction of the second shift is testament to the fact that Forest Garden continues to invest in stock to meet these peaks in demand. We will be working hard through the Easter season and beyond to bring all our market leading products to our customers.”Forest is the UK’s largest manufacturer and distributor of garden timber products and can be purchased in more than 1,000 garden centres and builders merchants up and down the country. "Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"That's pretty much my thinking, but I am seeing them more and more. Mostly at expensive new builds. Mostly people with very limited gardening experience wanting an immediate finished product. "
