Is it just me, or do you find you need more than one mower with you at a time. All due to the fact of the different size gardens. I can start by cutting a large plot of land, and then next find myself trying to lift the mower threw someone’s garage or even their house.

When I first started out over 12yrs ago I bought a Mountfield 18” rear roller, this was one of the old mount fields before the USA Textron take-over in 1998. This mower was fantastic & lasted for years.

Below is a list of mowers that I can remember having, including my opinion of their pros & cons.

Husqvarna Master garden 20” Mulching Range.

What a fantastic machine, it would even mulch all your hedge cuttings. Lasted for a good 7yrs of hard use.

HONDA HRD 536 QXE 21” SELF-PROPELLED

Cost over a thousand pounds & was so heavy & awkward I took it back to the shop & got my money back.

Honda HRX 426 QX 17”

This mower is not ideal for Pro use & if I can remember the rear roller came off after a couple of weeks.

Hayter Harrier 41 Push 16”

Another excellent mower bought over 10yrs ago & still use it on my garden today. It’s a bit on the small side by leaves you with a fantastic stripped finish.

Hayter Ranger 48 Autodrive 19”

Bought this of the back of the Harrier been so good, but found that it didn’t leave the lawn with a good finish.

Stiga Multiclip Pro 50 s svan £599

Another mulching mower with a Multiclip system that cuts and fertilises the lawn.

This is an excellent machine if your customer wants their lawn cutting regularly as you don’t need to empty a collector.

Rover Rotary Mower 18" Push Alloy Deck

&

Rover 22" Self propelled

Both of these mowers are the best I have found for cutting wet grass. The grass collection is fantastic as the whole of the rear is open to the box. They are also fitted with heavy duty swing tip blades to reduce the impact of hidden objects.

"Plus it doesn't matter if we all know plants are better value. I'd make the point of this to the customer but if they want trough grown at the extra cost that's their choice I'd just do it"

"I've done 5ft Thorne troughs. Very easy to plant just got a mini digger dug the trench then drop them in couldn't be easier however £250 per m does seem expensive. "

"Agree with you Graham, we have a client with a long run of Laurel which we only cut once a year mid june and have done for over 20 years, the client is fussy with a capital F ! It's a superb evergreen hedge which is bomb proof.
As to this so called…"

"Disagree there!  I maintain a site with a couple of of large laurel hedges and one cut in July suffices and keeps it looking nice.  Agree.... looks nasty immediately after cutting but quickly perks up so you don't notice the cut leaves.  Pretty much…"
