Cats are now more hated than wasps and foxes, with 34 per cent of gardeners saying the “murderous" pests are the worst garden menaces, according to an annual survey.
The number of gardeners regarding felines as the most hated creatures has risen 5 per cent year on year, making cats the sixth most unwelcome intruder in British gardens, as much of a pest as aphids.
Cats were spotted with prey in gardens by 38 per cent of respondents to the BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine’s annual survey of UK wildlife, with 30 per cent of the creatures holding birds and 24 per cent with mammals.
