just reading about the proposed 'independant group'.As a graduate member of the SGD I would say that it does some good within the industry, for example, the contract and price guides which are available as PDF files - however only to members!! I would propose, that what we need is a regulatory body that does not cost the earth to join, and is not a seemingly elitist group. An organisation whereby Registered membership is not only available to those that 'pass' a set of criteria set by whom?
I would also propose that there is 'design' and there is 'design', having come across two sets of clients, this year, whom had been charged in excess of £250 for a drawing which was in pencil, not to scale and to be quite frank - really poor - I feel that this is an issue which should be addressed within this type of forum. Don't get me wrong, I am not damning contractors that 'design', but the level of 'design training' they have had is often as a small part of a one or two year course. Surely we should respect the boundaries of our respective professions? and leave the construction to the very particular skills of contractors and they leave the designing to the fully trained designers.
I see that you have already found your way around.
Best regards
