Hi Phil, I don't do the whole leaflet thing, however I do like the simplicity of yours, looks good to me, can you add a landline or does that bring to many unwanted home calls / time wasters?

      Hi harry

thanks i did have a land line on my last leaflet but brought too many unwanted calls and sales calls

Have you thought about an 0800 number? I looked into it before I think it's about £120 per year but you could route it through your mobile. I never really got round to it but if you want to avoid the sales calls at home you could have the benefits of not looking like a fly by night/traveller but the advantages of a mobile.

have thought of it but not actually looked into it though

just go search for Non-geographic-numbers (NGNs) if you want an 08 or 03 or search for Standalone Local Numbers if you want to keep the same area code.

These can routed to landlines (ie you home number), mobiles or elsewhere (ie to a managed office).

The better services allow you to do "time of day routing "and optionally provide "voicemail boxes".

Can be set up very quickly and routing changed on the fly.

There's lots on LJN about this as well

Agreed with all above about having a land line number. As Gary states above, there are numerous routes available with many different options depending where and how you want to deal with the call.

Another comment would be (and I hope you don't think I am being picky), but your website has a few spelling, grammatical, typesetting and layout issues that need addressing as potential customers could find this off-putting.

              • Landline is cheap and will make you seem local. You can get them on PAYG like mobiles where your only constant monthly cost is the recurring landline fee.

I pay £0.99 a month for the landline and top up the account as needed. It is diverted straight through to my mobile and is a very cheap way to do it. I use http://www.invoco.net/numbers/geo#cost

  • Demographics. Demographics. Demographics.

Look at the age range of your profitable customers. Let me guess. Over 45? Then no matter how cool, modern, chic an under 45 may feel when eschewing "old tech" landline numbers, your customers want to know that you have one. Be wise. Get one and let them know you have it.

Sick of incoming sales calls or low value, no value enquiries when you got the line for potentially profitable new customers? Stay sick but stay cool about it. They are a nuisance but a polite no thanks takes no time at all and the same ones won't call back. At least, rarely. Don't let such trivial objections stop you picking up your best ever enquiries.

There are lots of VoIP providers out there. You can get a geographic number as part of a low cost package. I bought a VoIP phone to plug into my broadband connection, but could just as easily have downloaded free software to make and take calls over the internet, had the calls transferred to my home phone or mobile, have each one picked up by a voicemail recorder. You can have two, three or more landline numbers all connecting to your own phone or to any of the other options with no extra equipment required.

Or accept any of the wide variety of other options available at a (usually higher) price from a variety of sources. Essentially, do not deny your business the exposure of the tried and tested old tech landline number.

Just one more thing: (edit, sorry, two more) for some reason I cannot fathom some listed companies prefer to deal with businesses which have 0870 or 0845 numbers. Rental of either is very cheap or free through the better of the VoIP providers.

Even extra geographic numbers are less than £2 per month including VAT, many less than that with the first geo free of charge. I'm about to add an 0870 to my site, but it will come into the same telephone with the same ringing tone as when the company is called on any other number.
