Looks like a Water Figwort, Scrophularia aquatica, or one of its relatives?
Nice one - thanks. I think that may well be the case! :)
Recognise it visually as a 'weed' but don't know the name, either way whip it out
one man's weed is anothers prized perennial these days...there is a trend for ornamental weeds in borders at the moment
Looks like Giant Hamalayan Balsam to me. It crops up near rivers and it's seeds travel down and can become very invasive. Gets a good dose of Roundup when I see it!

Gotta love the himalayan balsam the busy lizzie of the gods lol
I'll have to take another look then. Can't see the extra leaves on the petiole on the Himilayan Balsalm, and it isn't anywhere near water.
yes there is a close resemblance to the mystery plant but the leaf tips on himalayan balsam are more pointy so i don't think it is that
Definitely water figwort. A lovely plant with square stem - good id feature! Native and non-invasive and easily pulled up if in the wrong place so make a lovely garden addition http://www.plantlife.org.uk/wild_plants/plant_species/water_figwort.
Come on guys its nothing like Himalayan balsam! Whorled pointed leaves with round stem.
No such thing as Giant Himalayan Balsam as far as I can find.
Himalayan balsam should be pulled not sprayed - bad practice (unless huge area and then need Aqherb01 and would be better to strim or slash below lowest node as can coppice and before seed heads develop.
Definitely figwort; when you dig it out you'll find it has a cluster of 'bulbs' at the base. Smells a bit funny too.
