Roy, not performed a ride on engine swap but we have replaced a 13hp honda on a pressure washer for a compatible Locin/Chinese clone engine. Have not noticed a performance difference, but it does seem nosier (exhaust noise). No reliability issues yet, but use pattern is not like a ride-on. Massive price difference made the choice a no-brainer for that situation.
Also sure we did the same on a small Belle compactor - the little vertical honda engine replacement (Locin?) was £49 inc delivery!
I bought this mower in the spring second hand and second time I used it the engine has melted a piston .
If you do it, make sure you know the output shaft (PTO) dimesions (lenght, diameter & lock key size) and can match it.
IIRC the code at the end of the Honda engine number denotes the 'PTO' details.
Sometimes these can be specific to 3rd party/Mower maker's use.
