While not connected, so we believe, some may remember the chilling footage of our attempted break-in two years ago. Just take note of how 'equipped' there were and awareness of CCTV etc
It does seem to be increasing, a friends van (builder) had his van stolen. They cut his handbrake cable and 5 of them rolled it off his drive, drove it about a mile to break into the back and then left it!
Sorry to have to say it but anyone who leaves 3k worth of tools in a van overnight is really asking for trouble and doesn't really deserve too much sympathy........ it really doesn't take long to move the expensive stuff into somewhere more secure. If the thieves can move the stuff in seconds, so can the van owner!
Ah......the caring, sharing support of fellow tradesmen ;) - I'm sure we've all done it...and don't forget not all have secure, safe places available for storage.
I note they chose the unmarked van against an adjacent logo'd builders van.
Where does that leave the unmarked van Vs logo'd van debate ?
I bet you wouldn't let your men leave all their gear in an insecure van Gary. :) If there's no secure place, most Stihl equipment can be secured in the van with chain through handles etc.............. the thieves, hopefully, won't be expecting the extra security and won't have the necessary bolt-cutters etc. It's odd that they say "allegedly stolen"................
Of course not, but that's not to say it could not and does not happen.
What's is an 'unsecured' Van? If it's locked in accordance with maker's directions - I'd say it's secure in the eyes of the law and insurance will pay out if you've tools cover.
If you leave it unlocked, that's what I'd call 'insecure'
In this case, we also do not know what additional measures may have been taken. The Police did not reveal all the details. Assumptions are dangerous both ways.
It's always 'allegedly' until proven in Court - that's our law.
We had a van done in broad daylight on a business park with the guys within a 100 yards. Inconspicous 'white Courier van' pulls up next to ours, side door to side door to make a "delivery". Our side door forced, gear taken, side door closed and white van drives out of business park within 1 or 2 minutes. Theft not discovered for some 30mins.
This US story caught my eye and made me laugh...well the last few words did ;)
"As reported by Fox San Antonio, a lawn care contractor in San Antonio, TX, caught a thief attempting to steal a leaf blower off of his trailer. The contractor pulled a gun and fired several shots at the bandit, but the bandit sped away unharmed, $300 leaf blower in tow.
A neighbor’s security camera caught a glimpse of the fleeing vehicle, and law enforcement officials are on the hunt. They are looking for a sliver Honda Civic driven by a while male with a big brown spot in the seat of his pants"
