Effective treatment for ivy

Hello guys. What is the best way to stop ivy growing? Got a customer where it is covering the garage. Is it best to try and get all the roots out or best to treat with some chemical? Thanks

    Kill with glyphosate or similar.
Or maybe an eco plug into the main root.

Can spray with glyphosate but you'll need an adjuvant to make it stick - especially if growing vertically. Best to spray on young green leaves rather than last seasons - hedgetrimmer it back if necessary and wait for re-growth.

Alternatively chop a 30cm gap in the main stem above ground level the use an ecoplug as Richard says. Wait 2 weeks then pull the top section away - the top growth will be dying and loosening its grip on the garage but not dead and brittle....check the roof and wall condition first though so you don't pull it all down!!!
