What happened at Sandringham and some photos

Phew!! We made it! After months of planning and two weeks of chasing our butts and nearly going doo-lally - we got there! It was a great day - lovely to see old friends doing well and enjoying themselves - although the day was so crazy that I didn't get to talk to anyone for very long! I think everyone was so shattered I for one could hardly stand up and I know a few of the people on the show gardens felt the same way. I don't know what it was about this year but it was a real hard slog - I think in our case it was because the garden was much bigger than what I personally had done before show garden wise. It makes such a difference! The sheer energy needed to do a big garden! It is so much more demanding. In the end our garden measured 12 metres by 6.5 metres. It was fun though and it was worth it to see everyone enjoying it and being inspired by it.I was really surprised how many people actually liked it - i really thought it would 50/50 at best - it was such a departure for us - normally we do theatrical show gardens not contemporary but its very good to do something different to show that we can do both.Anyway we got a large(?) Gold medal (not sure why large but no matter) and even HRH The Prince of Wales seemed to like it... whilst I'm name dropping Judy Dench, Tom Stoppard and Matthew Fort liked it too :)...All good stuff - the other show gardens were fantastic this year - really good - I especially loved Crowe Garden designs one - very brave and arty! And C & G Landscapes garden was absolutely stunning! All the garden were really good and hopefully they are all proud of themselves! Here's some photos of our garden - the colours have come out a bit odd - the actual colours are black, deep red and orange and silver (to represent coal and coke, fire and iron and steel respectively). The title was 'Industrial Evolution' and was inspired by the industrial revolution using both reclaimed victorian materials and modern to show that recycled materials don't have to be shabby and can be used in contemporary gardens... -Jane
