Your weapon of choice?

In my simplistic naivety I believe there are four levels or stages in a (landscape) gardener's evolution, namely:

1 . Estate car

2 . Car with decent trailer

3 . Van or pickup

4 . Flatbed or vehicle fleet

I'm a newbie at stage 2 with 4x4 and alloy, high-sided Erde trailer. So what's my question? I'm aiming to upgrade my trailer for something like an Ifor Williams, caged sides, twin axle, ramp tailgate type jobbie that I can build up a ton of waste in. They're not cheap, but still cheaper than a van worth looking at, so I was wondering what the pros and cons might be between a trailer like this and an old van?

Depends entirely on the work you do. If you're dealing with lots of waste and not that many tools (say hedges etc.) then a trailer is going to be more useful than a panel van. But if you don't deal with that much waste but need lots of mowers etc. then a Panel van will come in handy.

    • Makes good sense Seth, thanks

      • Much of my work is clearance and generates big amounts of waste at the moment

Not for a twin axle big caged trailer.
I paid just under 4 for mine
        • I was looking on fleabay, is there somewhere better?
          • Check some of your local dealers, they might have something second hand in good nick. I would be very cautious of eBay
