What spray nozzles do you use for spot spraying?

We use yellow solid/full cone nozzles. That said, you can't find them for love nor money it seems. Why? They are perfect for spot spraying, particularly if using a spray shield in borders. My Cooper Pegler dealer says most people use fan jets- to me this is daft, innacurate and wasteful, spraying a strip instead of the target plant. Hollow cones are also pointless as you only get the extremities of the target plant when the nozzle is positioned directly overhead.

Am I missing something here???

Also, for iron sulphate on lawns- I'm thinking a large bore anvil would be just the ticket, is this a fair assumption?

We use CP mini pro 1.5L handhelds with adjustable nozzles for spot spraying.

For iron, have a look at the product you're using and go for the upper end of the water requirement range so that it can soak into the moss. Pick a nozzle that will meet the high liquid dose rate based on your typical calibration walking speed / holding boom height.

    • Thanks Andrew. I think my guys would shoot me if I asked them to use a mini pro, but I use them around the workshop for cutting oil and truckwash fluid, they're good sprayers. We use a CP15 with spray shield for bed work and a long lance for less fatigue and more accurate spot spraying. The flipside of this is that it gets bashed on the ground a bit and nozzles are certainly best viewed as 'consumable'

I've just done the calcs on the iron sulpate- it will be a slow job even with the biggest anvil nozzle.

I found the solid cone nozzles over at Agratech NW if anyone is interested. Just bought another fifty yellow.

Anvil nozzle 7.5 light green should do the job for your iron Ben, never had any issues with blocking......will spray around 1meter width with a decent lance height.
        • Thanks Mark. I've bought liquid iron as it seemed the same price pro rata with less mixing hassle.

We use twin boom with white flat fan for iron. We also add a dash of wetting agent to help lubricate the sprayer internals - stops them clunking and getting stiff. Have tried various, and only works with comfort on a Berthould sprayer though as twin pump action on up and down handle movement. On a CP knapsack, you'll be pumping like mad. Might be better with newer CP's, not sure.

    • You were right about the pumping, but tfortunately my left bicep needs the extra work to bring it into line with the right :D Think they call that 'w*nker arm'....

I was sweating at the end but it did a good job. Just followed the scarifier lines.

Evenspray or Full cone are best for spot spraying - anvils are officially recommended too but I also think its very inaccurate unless you are using a VLV deflector and lower the lance low down ( but then you risk overdosing...)

Yellow full cone will give a medium spray quality at 1-2 bar (we do the full cone nozzle packs HERE I recommend a red anvil for iron/ fertiliser treatments - 2.4L/min coarse spray...plus lots of water!

ref: knapsacks - iron sulphate can be gritty and cloggy. The CP classics or newer Evolutions use the diaphragm pump which cope with it better as Andrew said - plus its nice & comfy !!!
