What makes a great pedestrian mower? I have been looking at my mowers and have realised all my mowers have high lift blades and plastic grass collectors, I don't have any mowers anymore with mesh grass bags. This is now the norm for me when it comes to buying a new mower, if the machine I'm looking at doesn't have these two options I will not buy. I was just wondering what others look at when purchasing a new machine? What features are a "must have" ? Many thanks Harry

In your case a charged battery (or 2) would be fairly vital!!

Battery mowers still have an engine :)

Haha, Seth, now you know Billybop is only going to tell you that technically it's a motor not an engine mate.....;-)

Or not being flippant a Honda engine, wheels with proper bearings and I don't like 1 lever height adjustment.
Not fussed about collector bag/box. They all work fairly well if the garden is kept up to date.
  • Hi H
Auto choke !!! Assume they are all auto choke now but as I have been using the same make & model mower with auto choke for many years I can not be certain about other makes and models.
Oh yes, single lever height adjustment an absolute must.

Auto choke is a good one!!
I've recently bought a billy goat with a Briggs engine (was too tight to pay the extra for the Honda I thought £1100 was enough for collecting leaves and hedge cuttings!)
Point being it took me about ten cold starts to remember to press the fuel bulb as all my other 4 stroke stuff has Honda engines
      • Hi Rich
Don't know the ins and outs of many engine options and like you I loved the performance and sound of the Honda.. But I must say the B & S auto choke engine on my Viking 655 mowers never miss a beat. Will never sound like the Honda though.
Sorry for drifting off topic a bit H.
