Hello, I'm after some help in understanding guarantees on materials.
I want to offer a consistent guarantee on workmanship and materials but I'm not sure what I can or cannot legally do. My main concerns are if I buy materials that are guaranteed for only 1 year by the manufacturer, but I want to offer a guarantee for say 5 or 10 years, can I do this? also, vice versa.. if something I purchased from the manufacturers is guaranteed for 15 years, can I choose to lower the guarantee to 5 or 10 years to match the rest of my guarantees?
My understanding (or more guessing) is that if the manufacturer's guarantee has expired, I wouldn't be able to make a claim myself against the manufacturer so I would need to foot the bill myself but lowering a guarantee period provided by the manufacturer from say 15 years down to 10 or 5 years seems to me that it could be perceived as conflicting with consumer rights laws.
Can anyone help to point me in the right direction? I see lots of firms offer a set 'x' year guarantee so I'm guessing it's possible but just wasn't sure how it's done and if there are any other complications I should be aware of or if my understanding of it all is even at all correct.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
