What Camera ?

I know, I know - it's a landscaping forum :)

Having owned an old compact camera for many years which seems to be failing, I want to get a new "bridge" or "dslr" camera for use in taking 'landscape' shots...(see what I did there? ... made the connection back to LJN ;) but also have something that can deal with wildlife and motorsport fast action.

Would like to have interchangable lenes, to cover the above uses.

Don't need a truely 'Pro' camera, but ideally >10meg-pixels so photos can be enlarged, cropped and/or printed large. Seen some good mainstream second hand items for sale, which would get more bang per buck.

Seen many nice Nikon/Canon (I guess they're the de facto makes, bit like Stihl etc)

What's the most used/favoured digital media type card used now (me, I'm still stuck with old compact flash cards ...!)

Anyone ever bought second hand camera's from dealers ?

So, any suggestions?

A camera should be in every landscaper's tool box, IMO:)

    I have a Canon G10.

Not too large to carry about but takes an excellent photo. Many professional photographers use them.

There's now a G16 in the Canon stable.

Having said that Gary ....many professional journalists just use an iPhone. Have you considered adding a lens to an iPhone or downloading specialist software app?

      • Phil what's the name of the best photo software for iphone thanks
        • Chris, didn't see a reply, I would say Aviary. Some great styles and colour correction you can get with that app.

Thanks will look at that bridge camera.....

      'Man Maths' works doesn't it ;) ?

  • I have recently purchased a Fuji finepix S1 bridge. It's a very capable camera. I would have to say SD is the norm now.

I use a pentax adventure proof. I'm not entirely sure what the exact model is I think it's a WG-2. It's waterproof/drop proof etc. etc. Drop proof (from standing on the ground). Cost me about £125 last year so will probably be less. Unfortunatly mine doesn't have any orange on it.

  • My cousin who is into photography recommends a canon 100D

I have a Nikon D7000, it has twin SD card slots. I love it and have 4 lenses and a good tripod to date.

By far the best nikon site (if you go down that route) is bythom.com.

The control I can have over shots compared with my previous Nikon D70s is amazing! ( and the D70s was a great camera too!)
