Your customer could spray with path clear or roundup (diy store product)
Which is ridiculous isn't it?!
How about using fire - weed wand or similar ? Not fully effective on perennials ( more than one hit req ) - but OK for the rest.
If it's a small area it may be worth a try
As Colin says, its ridiculous that the customer can put the "domestic" weedkiller down and not yourself. In your position, I'd live dangerously and just apply the domestic product...... sometimes a bit of commonsense is needed.
