Two companies and closing one

hello I have been running a landscaping business for many years and recently decided to operate two companies, setting up one purely for decking in the thought of winding down the main side, when do I tell the tax man, the main company has not traded anything for about three months  so I will be closing that side of the trading and carry on with the decking, so as said when do I tell the tax man
