The hunt for new premises

We are outgrowing working from a shed in my garden and need to find premises in the New Year, just a large shed/portakabin and small yard would do.

As we are based in North London I realise that any suitable premises will a) not be cheap or b) easy to find. I suspect that we will have to move at least outside the North Circular.

I am not sure how to go about this search, does anyone have any tips? I know that there are companies who claim to be finders, but I don't know ant or if they are any good.

Any tips/advice welcome please.

Thanks.

  • not sure what the lay of the land is like where you are but farmers are always a good bet, as they normally have an area of a field or yard they are happy to rent out. We have an old stable block, hard standing and access to a regular large bonfire and a permanent skip as well. Just have a drive around the local area rather than paying anyone else, after all you know what your looking at and don't be afraid to knock a few doors and chance your arm. Most people will rather earn something off of a yard/land and lower the risk of squatters

  • as thermo said farmers are definitely a good bet.. I managed to get my yard on a farm.it took a while to find a suitable place that had everything i wanted for the right price.. also don't be afraid to haggle.

  • Farms is a good idea, however there are not many of these in London at the moment! We may have to move further out if town, which will mean a lot more travelling! But needs must I suppose.
Perhaps perusing google maps might help to find possible places ....

I used google maps/earth to find my yard...very useful as you can enter search criteria and look at locations.
