not sure what the lay of the land is like where you are but farmers are always a good bet, as they normally have an area of a field or yard they are happy to rent out. We have an old stable block, hard standing and access to a regular large bonfire and a permanent skip as well. Just have a drive around the local area rather than paying anyone else, after all you know what your looking at and don't be afraid to knock a few doors and chance your arm. Most people will rather earn something off of a yard/land and lower the risk of squatters
as thermo said farmers are definitely a good bet.. I managed to get my yard on a farm.it took a while to find a suitable place that had everything i wanted for the right price.. also don't be afraid to haggle.
Perhaps perusing google maps might help to find possible places ....
I used google maps/earth to find my yard...very useful as you can enter search criteria and look at locations.
