Sadly most guys local to me see everyone as the enemy. I have had the flicks put up to me, and another one while pointing at me slit his throat. Plenty more stories as well. I always return with my signature friendly gesture. A thumbs up and a big smile.
i speak to a couple dont see point in evils normally jealousy they dont like and feel intimidated as its another person taking work they could get.
Blimey, some of you guys live in an different area than I, if I blew a kiss to some of the Herberts that cruise the area, knocking around here, I'd end up under the patio!
Seriously, I think that mostly, they are interested in what you are doing - I know i do it. May look a bit grumpy and don't realise it - must remember to smile whilst having a gawp! ;-)
Most just blank me and a few give a wave.
Just like you Harry, kill 'em with kindness, be it a smile or a friendly 'great day to garden!' does it. And my own incredible male dominance of course.....
for 18yrs I've been nodding, aknowledging a local, large tree surgery firm when I pass them, (we do treework) and get a cold response. Recently one of the guys, a foreman, has returned my nod and now he often waves first! Persistence pays!
