The evil eye....;-)

Just recently I've noticed every time I drive past another local gardening firm they give you the evil eye so to speak, now at first I thought it must be my good looks made them feel a bit uncomfortable and jealous so when the evil eye is given I just smile and blow them a kiss, ( I think it breaks down the awkwardness of the moment and stops them from feeling threatened by my extreme male dominance, or maybe not lol ) how else do my fellow Landscape juice members deal with the grumpiness of others?

  • It's a shame most guys I know locally enjoy healthy competition, I find it's the guys who travel from miles away and don't know the locals maybe feel a bit intimidated by our camaraderie :D

I also blow a kiss and wink, I find it works wonders lol
  • Sadly most guys local to me see everyone as the enemy. I have had the flicks put up to me, and another one while pointing at me slit his throat. Plenty more stories as well. I always return with my signature friendly gesture. A thumbs up and a big smile.

  • i speak to a couple dont see point in evils normally jealousy they dont like and feel intimidated as its another person taking work they could get.

  • Blimey, some of you guys live in an different area than I, if I blew a kiss to some of the Herberts that cruise the area, knocking around here, I'd end up under the patio!

Seriously, I think that mostly, they are interested in what you are doing - I know i do it.  May look a bit grumpy and don't realise it - must remember to smile whilst having a gawp! ;-)

Most just blank me and a few give a wave.

  • Just like you Harry, kill 'em with kindness, be it a smile or a friendly 'great day to garden!' does it. And my own incredible male dominance of course.....

  • Don't think I've ever been scowled at, most just wave or say hello if we're working next to each other

    • for 18yrs I've been nodding, aknowledging a local, large tree surgery firm when I pass them, (we do treework) and get a cold response. Recently one of the guys, a foreman, has returned my nod and now he often waves first!  Persistence pays!
