Roundup ProVantage was released this spring to a muted response – why was this?

Probably because a high load glyphosate weedkiller does not arouse the same interest as a new quick knock-down or residual herbicide, but a quick reading of the glossy pamphlet gives an indication of the extensive research and testing that goes in to a modern ‘clean’ weedkiller.

The 480 g/L ProVantage is certainly a step up from previous versions of the famous Roundup stable of products – here are a few interesting points you may not know about high-load glyphosates and Roundup ProVantage in particular:

'High Load’ means less product is used so the m2 coverage per pack is greater

Application rates on grass destruction range from 2.25 L/ha to 3.75 L/ha
Roundup ProVantage can be sprayed all over Scots pine, Norway spruce & others while fully dormant.
Apple, pear, plum & cherry tree trunk suckers can be sprayed in spring without damaging the tree
ProVantage can be used in: knapsack, boom sprayer, Enso saw attachment, weedwiper, stem injectors, Controlled Droplet Application (CDA) equipment, boat-mounted sprayers
The Environment Agency (EA) recommends the use of glyphosate and TopFilm adjuvant to halt the march of some invasive weed species
