Tennis elbow anyone?

Hi fellow gardeners and landscapers, Merry Xmas to you all and a profitable, healthy and happy New Year :-)So ... of all the jobs that it's NOT good to develop a case of tennis-elbow in, guess what ... I've blooming only contracted it innit! I reckon based on research that its all the pruning I'm doing, and not using loppers on the larger limbs/stems/branches when I should, thereby knackering the tendon in my right arm.So ... if the Internet's anything to go by ... I'm stuffed and it just "gets better" gradually on its own ... so I thought ... bu**er that for a game of soldiers ... I'll ask the fellas (and ladies) for their advice, as someone's bound to have had it/got it?Any advice on repairing in double-quick time, only it's bloody painful doing stupid things like gripping a mug of tea, etc. despite not hurting at all lifting hedge trimmers, etc. ... weird ... :-0

  • I get tennis elbow around 3 times a year, painful as anything. Had it for years until I was recomended this http://www.physioroom.com/product/Vulkan_Tennis_Elbow_Support/2033/...

Now when it flairs up, I wear this for a couple of days and it clears up, should wear it all the time really to stop it coming back.

BTW, I get mine from atcually playing tennis!

    • That's precisely what I needed, some practical "been there done it" ... I'll look into getting one, thanks.
      • Go for the one in the link, i tried a few and this one is by far the best

Hi merry Christmas to you to. Sure it's not golfers elbow. Depends if it's the top or bottom of the elbow. I get both and its bl***y painful. I too use a Vulcan strap seems to do the trick nicely. Plus some of that deep heat (other brands are available) which although stinks like a rugby club changing room really seems to help. If it's really bad I get some anti inflammatory drugs which help but I don't like taking. I suspect tennis elbow is a side effect of our job. It's a painful one, and I just love it when doctor says rest it.........how? It's my job! Anyway good luck strap it up keep the arm moving gently and rest it over Christmas. Have a good one.
    • Cheers fellas, ordered one and looking forward to it arriving :)
    • I completely agree and thanks Andy :)

  • Yes , for 13 mths now . total rest advised initially. Lots anti- inflammatory.
    Physio from doctors too.

Ice packs are best thing & have breaks between hedgecugting.

I had a bad shoulder/ rotator cuff the year prior go that, or 2initialy !

Now chiropractors with a bad- back.

Any further info on tennis elbow email me.

    • Thanks Robin, although not sure how "total rest" is possible with a full diary and mortgage :)

Not had it thankfully do have a really bad shoulder that the consultant told me won't get better unless I have total rest. So it looks like it's staying bad :-(
