Sliding gate - easy to install?

My client is looking to install an electric sliding gate.  I have been told by some suppliers that installation is simple... and it should be a reasonably straight forward job for a landscaper.  Would those that have installed agree?

Installation fees vary (one quote was £2,500+VAT but that was to include set up of automation and intercom as well as install gate)

The gate is to possibly be 6.5m in width which is the existng opening in the blockwork wall, thus the price of the actual gate is high.  One idea was to extend one of the walls to reduce the gap, perhaps by 1.5m, leaving a 5m gap.  Everything needs to go through planning and so I'm eager to hear from those having experienced.

Thank you!

Claire

  • when ever we have had them ive let the company install them. If you are not used to doing them you can end up taking twice as long as you think and if it all goes wrong its on you. might be better to let them do what they do best and install it and earn a few quid of off the installation quote

    • Thank you Thermo, I was leaning that way so good to have your advice.

    • Thanks for replying to me John, great to heave your feedback.  Yes it sounds like it'd be better to have the specialist as the contact for any issues.

    Hi Claire

Just for information, this is worth a read: http://gate-safe.org/

    Find an installer: http://gate-safe.org/find-installers/

    • Thanks Phil, that's useful, especially if we decide to get supply only and then use a separate installer.

      Have a great weekend.

  • Hi Claire,

I am a Landscaper and I install gate automation. I am trained by the manufactures in installation and safety.

It might look easy but to meet the law, hse regs etc even a sparky cant do it.

I cover Northants, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire.

Feel free to give me a call on 07590 631885 to discuss.

    Mark
