hi rob you register with the environment agency online depending on what you want to transfer if it is only green waste that you have produced yourself (lower tier) it is free of charge but that will not cover things like old fence panels, concrete, rubble etc. There is a map of green waste sites on this page also check your local council for there sites that will take trade waste they should publish what the cost is per ton and it will not be cheep as you have to gestemate what weight you are taking from the garden get the prices and work out the cost not forgetting the time it takes you to go there and back and unload
I am also based in North West, I charge £2 per bag of green waste.
Then pay some else to take it away from me.
Loads of people who do waste/rubbish removals.
I'm in Bolton/Wigan, I can give you contact details for a couple of people if you're near by.
Good Morning Craig.
I am also in Bolton, that would help out so much. I am definitely struggling with the wast side of things.
Also, thanks David for your advice. With me doing more than gardens, flagging, building etc.they say i have to pay £150 for the license.
Hope to speak soon Craig.
Rob
To confirm with other posters, in your circumstances you need a higher tier licence. £150 odd for three years. Cost to dispose of things depends what it is as green waste/hardcore/rubble/mixed general/wood/treated wood etc are all different 'waste streams' and attract different costings.
Try talking to local skip companies who have a 'transfer station' where they sort waste from skips etc as many will let you tip waste there (for a fee) by using their weighbridge.
Prices vary countrywide so what we pay in Lincs wouldn't reflect costs elsewhere.
If using a trailer for your waste and if you passed your test post 1997 don't forget your trailer test/licence if you don't already have one!
It's not easy to work out what you need to charge your customers when starting out on the waste disposal route. You can get costs from a local green waste recycling centre, who typically charge in increasing weights, i.e. 400kg min charge of £40, 500kg £45, 750kg £50 and so on. they will have a minimum charge and weight.
Once you know how much green waste fits in your van you can store at your site if possible and do a trip to the waste depot to make best use of time and travel costs and the cheaper disposal costs for increased wight. Once you have the cost you can then determine a price per bag (of your choosing) to advise customers of. Its much better to be transparent on costs to the customer and say £2.50 per bin bag size grass clippings. Shop around too for local green waste depots too. In my area the prices vary massively to double the cost.
However as a minimum for green waste just get the free lower tier licence, takes 5 mins and you can print off the certificate :). Don't be sucked in by companies offering the licence as a service. You can get the lower tier for nothing! https://www.gov.uk/waste-carrier-or-broker-registration
Good luck :)
all green waste is lower teir and is free to register, with the EA on line. anything else is higher tier and is £150 to register. re recycling sites in hampshire you get a permit which allows 12 visits per year. more and have to find a green waste site or pay to dump at a trade waste site. £25 per load last time i looked.
