Did you seal the backs with something like SBR? Those streaks look like run-off.
No, there was some pva added to the water mixture but not painted on the backs. Also, the old slabs which were there already which we relaid using the same technique don't show the marks.
how long have they been down. may well be the residue mould oil from the production process. it will fade off

Just wondering if they were standing stacked close to the mixer and a bit of careless sloshing of water/pva has run down between the slabs, causing the staining on the faces.
Are those slabs Marshalls utility paving? I've noticed this effect when using these cheap slabs.
I think as suggested, mould oil. It will disappear in time.
