Paving Stains

We recently extended a new build patio using the generic buff concrete slabs which looked fine at the time but now that they have been laid have developed these streaky drip like marks on them - has anyone seen this happen before and know what it is? I know circular marks can be from different curing times of the concrete if they are stacked into a pallet too quickly after production but this is quite an unusual pattern?

    Hi Kirsty

Did you seal the backs with something like SBR? Those streaks look like run-off.

  • No, there was some pva added to the water mixture but not painted on the backs. Also, the old slabs which were there already which we relaid using the same technique don't show the marks.

  • how long have they been down. may well be the residue mould oil from the production process. it will fade off

    • A couple of weeks.

      • in that case mould oil from the manufacturing process. it will weather off quite quickly

        • More than likely.

  • Just wondering if they were standing stacked close to the mixer and a bit of careless sloshing of water/pva has run down between the slabs, causing the staining on the faces.

  • Are those slabs Marshalls utility paving? I've noticed this effect when using these cheap slabs.

I think as suggested, mould oil. It will disappear in time.
