Organic Lawn Treatment Programme...

Currently working self employed as a maintenance gardener. I have previously worked for a lawn care company where traditional non-organic fertilisers weedkillers were used. I was wondering if anyone on here offers a organic lawn treatment programme, and if so what the feedback/results are?Reason I ask is that I do offer lawn treatments to existing customers, and was looking into a more sustainable / organic treatment programme if possible, but my knowledge of these products does not expand much further than bio ferts and soil conditioners. Thanks,Aaron

looking at similar presently and finding the internet searches hard and vague

can you recommend any good year round organic fertilizers ?

so far ive been recommended SUSTANE organic fert but havent been able to research it fully yet --

Have you actually asked any customers whether they want such a programme?

I spent a lot of time researching such a thing when starting out (4 years ago) and there is little demand from customers.

I ended up using organic / semi-organic product where I can for good self practice and healthy soil. Obviously, not much in terms of organic weed control available.

There are lots of organic fertlisliers, seaweed soil conditioners and compost teas, plus you'll need to do more aeration regularly, and persuade customers on merits of higher regular mowing.

    Andrew ,

can you recommend any feed - improver products that are cost effective

from my point of view its about offering options -- and around my area there are a lot of people interested in organic practice -- im not intended on being organic completely - its just that im finding many situations where soil improvement and minimum chemical applications are the right option

    Hi Dan,

Really best to talk to your suppliers about the different options and problems - it's not one size fits all. On here you have Pro-Green, AgriGem and GreenBest being active and all of them would have something to offer I'm sure.

As the organics have less N/Kg capacity, you'll need to look harder at how you achieve your overall NPK targets eg with more g/sqm, more visits or some mulching mowing etc. Again, the suppliers will help if needed.

Some useful info here regarding organic lawn treatments and some good selling points as to why organics is better than chemicals

Sorry, being a dimwit - long day already.

  • Pitchcare supply a range of maxwell organic fertilisers that are good. Viano produce a diverse range. Though with the mineral content of many of these I'm not sure at what point they become technically organic cf inorganic. Soil Association are good people to speak to about this. Last time I checked they didn't have an approved product but they were aware of the issue.
  • I do, however I find most people want the same instant reasults as with synths, and as such its best to start them conventionally before transitioning to maintenance feeding.
Many people ask for organic or sustainabole but when push comes to shove, they also expect them to peform on par with standard fertilizers, which they simply wont do. They are a different beast all together.
