Lowest vibration light-duty Strimmer

Its coming up to that joyeus time where tools need replacing and updating - This time I'm looking to have a lightweight (as light as possible) low Vibration strimmer for lawn edging and light work, and a seperate strimmer / bursh cutter for the heavier work.

Can anyone reccomend a lightweight pro-grade strimmer with decent low vibs that is suitable - Cost is not an issue, I am after LOW vibrations (it will be the second most used tool after the mowers) and ideally low fuel use,

My preffered brands are Makita, Stihl, Husq and echo as Im familiar with the basics of these but I'm willing to consider others.

Up until now I've mostly been using Sthil Combi km90/km56r + attachments (engines modified with additional rubber mounts to reduce vibs). This set up uses alot of fuel and is over kill for lawn work, aside from being very heavy.

  • Just bought a Stihl FS94 strimmer.......... its a pro-grade new model thats just come out this year. Largest of the ordinary 2 stroke strimmes rather than the 4-mix, which makes it lighter. Seems very light compared to my FS130...... hasn't got the power of the FS130 but its great for the lighter strimming jobs in domestic gardens etc. Vibration seems minimal. Picked it up for £309.

Echo SRM Pro series, one lowest, low end Pro U handled strimmers (@ 2.8).

We have a SRM335U permantely metal bladed...for those hard to cut jobs :-)

I have the vibes chart for Stihl & Echo somewhere that I'll post up later when in the office.

Latest Stihl Vibe Chart I have...

Didn't realise the gap between roll hoop and bull horn.

Huge difference. Also anything 'domestic' no matter how cheap is going to be hi vibe as the expectation is only for infrequent use.

Note this article & date (I'm sure its on LJN or LJ but can't find it :-( )

  • Stihl FSA 85 cordless strimmer, works very well for modest brushcutting needs, turn handle round and it edges lawns. 2 x batteries advisable with fast charger. Vibrations - not even noticeable.

    Light and quiet.

And not forgetting the options available via Etesia/Pellenc :-) No emission and minimal vibes ?

Also seems relevant BUT you need to pay Which? a min of £1 to read it  ;-)  Top five strimmers...

Can't "wait" to see what the models are..........

  • I have just been through 3 strimmer s,I had a honda ums425 great machine starts first time every time, but the bump head wore out after 3 weeks use,the bought a second hand fs45 ...total garbage, trouble starting, running and feed head was awful...then went out and bought a brand new fs50ce,utter rubbish, the ergo start makes no difference ,the stihl bump feeds are total shite, you can't use any wire over 2mm,then they snap, the auto feed heads are rubbish, really slowed our days down, just bought a brand new honda ums425le you can't fault the honda engines, just need to put a washer on the top of the bump feed to get a few more months out of it...seriously the new stihls are total garbage
  • Never met a strimmer yet that didn't have bad bump head days.
