  thanks for the welcome and quick reply,
  ideally the course would look in depth at lawn care in residential settings, possibly parks. I would like to receive a certificate at the end from a recognised body so that my customers have some reassurance (and I am competent and can do a good job).

  I only seem to be able to find NVQ type qualifications relating to sports turf (golf, football etc)-with IOG endorsement.

  I,ve found a general gardening RHS level 2 course but lawncare is only a part of the syllabus.

  Seems to be several 1 day introductory lawncare courses.

  I'm taking voluntary redundancy in October so I have some time to prepare thankfully-looking forward to it :)

  Hi Nigel

  We don't offer a course specific to lawn care, however if you are looking to apply professional use herbicides you will need to have what is known as your PA1 and PA6

  PA1 Foundation Module (Safe Use of Pesticides) is the first course which top line covers:

  • Understanding what a pesticide is and how to use it
  • Acts and Regulations relevant to pesticides
  • LERAP with buffer zones
  • Use of protective clothing
  • Storage of pesticides
  • Transportation of pesticides
  • Disposal of pesticide containers
  • Keeping records
  • First aid
  • How to protect the environment and water quality

  Then if you are looking to apply these using a knapsack etc you will need the PA6 course - Handheld Spreaders which covers hand held applicators including knapsacks and this course course again - top line covers the following: -

  • Preparing a hand held pesticide applicator for work, calibrate it and operate it to ensure correct application rate without risk to themselves, other people and the environment.
  • How to use the information detailed on product labels to determine the approved uses for the product and its potential hazards to human safety, non-target areas and the environment in general.
  • Carrying out daily and routine maintenance on a hand held pesticide applicator.
  • Carrying the correct procedure for cleaning personal protective equipment and application equipment which may have been contaminated with pesticide.

  I just put this in google
  lawncare training
  Quite a few company's came up,I cannot say anything about them you will have to judge for your self.
  Other option is try and get a job with one of the large franchised company's, earn as you learn then adjust what you want to suit your self, from what I come across alot of independents have started this way
  If you follow the job with a franchise outlet get it in a different area to were you want to work as they have some trading rights forms you have to sign that stop you trading were you have operated on their behalf.(I Think)

  Many thanks for the advice.
  I,ve googled lots in the past 3 months and there's so much information out there-difficult for me as a newcomer to choose the best training.
  Earn as you learn is definitely something to think about.
