Lawn aerator and scarifier

Can anyone recommend me a manual not petrol tool of each of the above.

I want to be able to aerate and scarify some of my regular customers small lawns as part of our regular maintenance.

I don't have the space or budget for large, powered machines and for larger lawns recommend a separate company comes in.I like the look of something like this but I don't understand how the plugs would be ejected it looks like it would clog up.

I don't mind that it will be time consuming or labour intensive as it would be carried out when we are lacking other things to do in certain gardens.

    There were paragraphs when I wrote this out but it's all been bunched together and the link hasn't worked!
    • Did you use a phone? Sometimes the formatting doesn't carry through
    • Just tweaked it to display correctly.

  • I actually use one of those on some really small lawns we look after. Works well as long as the ground is soft / damp. Keep a round file in your pocket for deburring inside the tubes and a flat one for the outside.

      Will get one of those then. How about scarifier. I currently use a spring rake on small lawns.
  • I use one of those sometimes. It's worth having a metal rod of some kind to poke the holes out if they do get clogged up. Can be hard work to use, but does a good job.  For a mini scarifier I've got a rake on wheels which also works well. There's one on that site you linked to. Wolf garten do one also as a multi change head.

    I really rate the Oregon scarifier blade - just get it in the same width as your cutting deck on your mower and see what a difference it makes. Mow short as feasible, then go over it with the oregon spring blade fitted. What a difference, especially in wild mossy lawns. Saved my dads back garden from being over run with the stuff, and the blade comes in at £15-17, its worth every penny too considering what you save on a purpose built petrol scarifier!

      Hi Ben, how does that blade work, as scarifiers usually work the opposite way to a mower blade

        It has a spring tine on each end of the blade, and it dethatches the lawn pretty quickly - I'm fairly new to gardening in general so scarification may not be the word, but it really does tear up the moss, and if done progressively over a few months like me can really help a lawn lose its moss. Here's the link;
