Hello guys,

I bought a john deere jx90cb at the start of the season and pick up is really good in the dry packs the bag well but now the grass is wet 99% of the time here in norfolk it hasnt been doing so well which im disappointed about but thought i'd try and find a solution as i can't afford to buy another mower not this year at least... so there is a product you can buy on ebay/amazon Called neverwet it repels water, mud, anything that contains liquid, so i treated the underside, blade, fan and grassbag i havent had to clean underneath the lawnmower once and the bag is filling well with no clogging up.

I have also used it on my work boots, strimmer and spray suit/wellies there are many uses where this product works well hope this solves some of the problems you face with the wet weather atm.

Sounds interesting Ryan, anything to help stop clogging would be useful.  MIght have to give it a try, looks quite cheap at Homebase.

Similar has come up using alternative products like WD40 (at worst), or Teflon/graphite type sprays. The effect does wear off on underdecks (especially if wet) so you need to re-apply regularly.

great tip - will try thanks.

  • Hi Ryan sounds interesting - let us know how it goes!
  • Good tip will give it a go,every morning we have had a heavy Dew up here in Cheshire,I got the blower out and blew the dew off a couple of lawns before cutting which did make a big difference to time on the job
  • Yeah home base has it for £4.97 or something like that I went and got another 4 packs, it's working well currently will let you know how long it lasts I did 2 base coats and 6 top coats in the hope it lasts before the need to recoat, I forgot to mention though we haven't got the clear finish over here yet it leaves a frosted layer on it tbh the look doesn't phase me as long as the problem is sorted I have had steam coming coming out of my ears every two strips clean under mowing and empty grass bag soaking wet gloves clumps of grass on the lawn grrrrr adding 1/3 of the time extra on the job not good if fixed price. Looking for a decent rear roller next year with good wet pick up any suggestions guys?
  • Ok reporting on the never wet... Worked well for a week but wore off sorry peeps back to the drawing board gonna try get hold of the graphite spray see if that helps.

What you need is an Etesia.

They have near faultless collection in the wet. We have a fleet of Pro46's and a Pro53 on the pedestrian front. The Pro53 will literally suck anything in its path and fill the bag to the brim (and some) regardless of what the weather is doing.
    • i would love a pro53 but that price tag etesia are amazing mowers all the councils use them

  • Ryan, you're comments about needing a roller machine that's good in the wet, and the bag soaking wet, are the problem here.

No roller mower picks up as well as a wheeled machine as there's more gear at the back making the airflow reduced: Hayters are the worst design, but there's no solution with a rear roller.

Grass bags clog up fast and again the airflow is raduced to almost nil. A plastic box is better, like on a Viking or Etesia, or have a spare bag that you've ventilated by heating a 10mm metal bar and melting loads of holes in it.

Your best bet is to have both roller and wheeled mowers. Running one machine compromises almost all jobs over the different conditions.
