If you need generic shots of grass for banners or backgrounds go to istock or shutterstock ....among others....not expensive....
Have a look on Google images..................... there's loads to choose from and they're all free.
I'm not sure that's a 100% true - copyright will still be owned by someone?
Google crawls the net collecting these images, hence why there is so much plagiarism on the web.
There's many a story on LJN of people seeing their work/photo's appearing on someone else's site or documents -see an example here...
We went and used iStock for our photos for some our literture and paid outright for ownership.

As above, definitely the majority showing on Google will be copyrighted and leaving yourself open if you use them. Better off paying a few pounds to either of the companies mentioned above and keeping legal.
