Garden/lawn drains, membrane or not?

I'm getting someone in to do some drains for me, pea gravel and perforated pipe. He doesn't suggest using membrane to line the trench, but I thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone thinks otherwise for the best long term results. Thanks

  • I am in East Kilbride heavy clay we don't line the trench but we do put membrane on top. On sandy soils it is required
  • Ive quite often seen it where the pipe is wrapped in the membrane.

  • If you use membrane it helps to keep the soil out of the gravel and pipe. It should therefore make the drain last longer.
