When Officials asked for the translation of a road sign, they thought the reply was what they needed.
Unfortunately, the e-mail response to Swansea council said "I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated".
This is the version which went on the sign barring lorries from a road near a supermarket. The notice went up and all seemed well - until Welsh speakers began pointing out this embarrassing error.
This comes from a newsletter from a language translation service I used years ago. The translation service state they always have a "human" available to respond to your query as we 'humans' all make mistakes or make wrong assumptions from time to time.
Why do I post this?
It bought home to me from recent debates that one persons intention can easily be misconstrued by someone at the other end.
Worth remembering.....
