EGO Cordless strimmer

I'm in the market for a light duty strimmer and looking for a backup unit to my current Stihl FS70.  My mower chap (who has 2 stroke running through his veins) was very enthusiastic about the EGO cordless gear he has started to sell.  I had a little play with one and have to say it seemed rather good... nice and quiet, instant pick up and go, and no messing with mixing fuel, pull cords, fouled spark plugs etc.  This would be for my regular round which are mostly small domestics - nothing too heavy just trimming edges and around the ornamental nik naks that customers love to adorn their lawns.  It often feels like I spend more time getting my Stihl fueled and started than using the damn thing, so this looks quite tempting.  56V batteries from 2Ah to 7.5Ah all interchangable and fast charger available, they also do chainsaws, blowers, hedgetrimmers and mowers in the range.

Has anyone tried them - any feedback ? TIA

  • Not used the ego range specifically but have researched it and use a lot of 36 volt cordless including a stihl battery strimmer, which is my go-to tool for the light strimming work you describe, so I would imagine that the 56 volt would be even more powerful

    Hi Russ,

My Stihl dealer stocks the Ego range and rates it highly. It seems a good alternative for the small strimmers, I think I'll be looking to the Ego range when I need to replace.

Our dealer also stocks them along with Stihl & Pellenc.

They also say they've had good feedback, but suspect it only a valid comparison against the Stihl ?

Ironically, we've gone down the Oregon route ( for a few tactical bits )

Cheers Nick - who's your dealer out of interest ?  Local to us I guess, might have to check them out !

  • Also like the idea of the 80 volt "Greenworks" cordless kit which in theory at least could deliver still more power... I think the Ego's etc have taken off more in the U.S., I know their lawn mower has L.E.D. headlamps which may sell it to the yanks but in this country we tend to sneer at such gimmicks lol

...but don't you have shorter days 'up north' so could be useful  ?  scratchchin.gif?width=15

I have used a EGO Power Plus ST1300E Cordless Line Trimmer on a demo and it was a pretty good little strimmer, however EGO also do a cheaper model, I would not recommend it...

Thanks Harry, yes been doing some more digging - the cheaper model 1201 is not waterproof (brushed motor) so no use for us really.  Have been eyeing up the 1500 model - thicker line 2.4mm and variable speed motor sounds better !
