Do I need reinforcement for a bed?

Dear Landscape Juicers,

I would appreciate some help on whether I need to reinforce a fence.  My client has a slope down the side of his garden, falling 23cm over 2m width, for a 7m length.  We are going to make it into a bed, and I'm thinking of using Everedge for the bed edge, but I am concerned as to whether I should reinforce the back of the bed, which is the concrete shuttering of the wooden fence.  Or will the concrete be enough to retain the soil?  I could use a 'Titan' large everedge product but it would be cheaper to use railway sleepers.

Thanks - Jane

  • Jane by the concrete shuttering do you mean concrete gravel boards that are under the fence panels also what are the fence posts made out of

    • Yes, they're the gravel boards.  The fence posts are concrete.

      Thanks - Jane

Jane... so will the soil overs pill the gravel boards onto the fence when the bed is in place? If so I would have thought it would be wise to reinforce/protect the fence, the catch being it is easy to create a narrow space which weeds will use to their advantage - - however if the soil is just going up against concrete, I would have thought it would be OK
