Delivery Drivers - Is it just me or

are they all going a bit mad.Have had a flurry of enquiries re insurance jobs for walls damaged from delivery drivers crashing into them.Of late several normal drop offs have been immensely complicated, and had a 12tonne load dumped 200m from site in Church Hall car park!!, (slightly hippy vicar so no upset thankfully) today. On the road they seem more aggressive when not picking their nose or on mobile.I'm concerned is there hemp in the DERV?, or all the pro's on holiday and have filled their place with a Royal Mail / BA workforce who aren't happy with the line of work because there isn't the slightest provocation to allow them to go on strike.

  • My mother in law was hit by a delivery driver today! She was parked at the side of the road and van came round the corner and got her wing and headlight! Van driver (woman) was more worryed about her van!
  • x mas deliveries !
  • It must be a national phenominum!

Three weeks ago we had two deliveries to the same client.

The first delivering natural stone in 1 tonne pallets turned up in a box van with a tail-lift. Not a problem with that you may think? The problem is that we wanted it placing at the top of a steeply sloping driveway with tightish access. We manually had to drag 4 loads on a pallet truck up the slope and the dopey driver even asked the female client (who had just had a baby!) to give a hand. Prior to this he had just reversed his van in to one of the steel posts of the electronically controlled drive gates whilst being directed! I said to the driver that I could not beleive that he delivers paving all-day without the use of a HIAB and he said that his boss reckons it does not warrant the investment....

The next day we had a delivery of 50 bags of cement on a pallet. The truck turned up with a HIAB as expected and the driver did a marvellous job of reversing through the gates and partially up the drive. He then proceeded to put his aluminium side to his vehicle down and leaned it against the £600 electronic door access box on a gate post, scratching it in the process. The client went berserk.

how did he get it to rear of /on tail-lift --------
  • We have had deliveries like this before it always amusing, Bradstone do It if you buy direct! go it on a job in Wales and from the lorry to where we wanted it was quite a nice slope, only way he could stop was to turn the pallet over! I like our local jewsons, they have a nice new HIAB with a remote control, on one job we had to but everything over a 10' tall hedge, he managed easy, he could stand wherever he liked!

Can't be the same Jewsons chap we had in Buckinghamshire! Single track road, got the HIAB half way across the hedge and it packed up. He didn't have a clue how to operator it and I think he held up traffic for a good 45 minutes!
  • Err, with the aforementioned pallet truck!

The branch in question was I believe Marlow or one near by. I think it was a relief driver.
