Citroen Dispatch van

My current steed is my trusty old Toyota Hilux which I just love to bits but I am beginning to think about the practicalities of a van that is low in height for ease of loading and unloading my collection of vintage garden tractors. The newer Citroen Dispatch from '07 has a far better fuel economy's hand my Hilux and it does looks to be a good all rounder. I am assuming that they are a bit smaller than the Transit but bigger than a Transit Connect? I don't do that many miles hence why I am not looking at Transits and Trafics. Anyone got one and what their views on them. Are they reliable? Any feedback would be great.

Not sure about the Dispatch, but from a fuel point of view you should see a considerable difference, last year I switched from my ford ranger down to a 63 plate Renault Kangoo latest shape and engine, it's slightly bigger than a transit connect, and my weekly diesel bill has gone from £65 per week in the Ranger down to £16.00 per week in the Kangoo, it's a made a huge difference.... Good luck
    • Thanks; I get through roughly £70 of fuel every two weeks in my Hilux. It's a great vehicle but I am thinking of the fuel costs and trying to reduce my carbon footprint a little. I had a older Kangoo MPV and loved it for its versatility and frugality.

We used to have a dispatch van and was a great van only changed to a relay because it was bigger!
    • Thanks; so you went with another Citroen model. Is the fuel consumption good on these or are they similar to a Transit?
  • Hi Andrew,

I had an 07 lwb dispatch with around 80,000 miles on it until I changed to a caddy maxi last year.

The dispatch was a great size for me with the lwb and had twin doors so another plus point.

In terms of reliability I think I bought a bit of a dud! Got rid of it in the end when the gearbox went which I hear is a very common fault with them along with a sting of more minor problems that just made it uneconomical, so lost a reasonable amount on it.

As for fuel I found that £20 would take me 100 miles regardless of how I drove (with only basic tools) or whether it was in town or on the motorway. I now have a 2011 caddy maxi which has reduced my weekly bill from around £15 to about £10 so % wise is a fair bit of difference and I now think of it as a gas guzzler!

Build quality, everything is a bit tinny and a lot of road noise compared to the vw but I suppose there is a fair difference in price between the 2 which allows for a lower spec..

To sum up the extra money I spent on the caddy was well worth it on my opinion and is definately reflected in the quality of the vehicle and the comfort of driving. The dispatch is still a good vehicle and I would recommend if mechanically sound but personally due to build quality I wouldn't go back again.

Also the caddy imo has a much better business image for prospective clients .

I hope this helps, let me know if there's anything else you want to know!
    • Joe,

Excellent feedback and very useful pointers.

      Thanks

How many miles are you doing for £10 a week?
      Can't be many surely?
      • We probably average about 50-70mpw. The farthest I tend to travel is about 4-5 miles but only if it is really worth it, smaller jobs are all within 2-3 miles or if on a round journey maybe 15 properties in 15 miles. Benefits of living in a city and choosing jobs!

We've got 2013 Citreon Dispatch LWB Enterprise, there are so many different versions.  We had a Peugot Partner before.

The enterprise variant will carry a tonne plus driver, I looked at every mid--sized van on the market incl VW Caddy maxi  which was the runner up contender.

It has been reliable so far, just had 2 new tyres, and had front brake pads done in November3314649232?profile=originalI can't tell you about MPG, I stopped checking that many years ago, we have quite a lot of steep hills around here and it goes up smoothly like a rocket compared to the old van.

As otherss have noted on other forums, there are no flat surfaces for a drink, ours has pre-fitted steel bulkhead, which is tinny, can make the cab quite hot.
