Chemical for patio cleaning

Hi allI recently took to plunge and added a pressure washer and patio cleaner to my business and it's been a success. However i am after a relatively cheap (I know) chemical that I can spray onto the pathways that helps break up the grime and dirt so it can be cleaned quicker, saving time and money,Does anyone have anything they could recommend?

  • The karcher stuff is alright. But I haven't used it commercially! Only around the house. Not sure how much better it was using it though :/
  • I used Sodium Chloride on my own paving before using the pressure washer and it worked well breaking up the ingrained dirt. Its also quite cheap on Amazon and covers a large area per litre (Let down) I have used various other chemicals on paid jobs but non work better

Do you mean sodium chlorate? Sodium chloride is salt.

I'd be a bit careful when using sodium chlorate, especially if there is a likelihood of run-off onto lawns and/or planted areas.

Although it's now banned, sodium chlorate can be used as a total weedkiller.

      • I think Stephen might mean sodium hypochlorite which is used in swimming pools........  When I was searching for a solution to getting rid of the black spots on paving that pressure washers find difficult to remove, it was recommended to try this.

      • Yes, I was thinking of the product name written on the drum I think. Its a burning chemical in strong concentrations so you have to be careful handling

I use watered down hypochlorite before I power wash, although I have clients who use it and don't power wash at stronger doses...

It's nasty stuff and you do need to be carefully, however it does an excellent job.

    • Hi Robbie. What dosage rate do you usually use with this? I use 150ml to 5 litres water
  • Yes it is hyperchlorite. I've not known it to damage plants and lawn if washed off which lessens concentration. Its used for all sorts of things comercially. I normally water it on the surface and brush it across area. I've been using it on York stone. Then it can be washed off or pressure washed which I do when it has dried. Its great at getting rid of marks and the smells of a dog area!
  • This might help?
