Hi Richard,
Surprised they are still doing damage - you must have a nice little warm microclimate there.First establish if they are actually still active - peel back destroyed turf and they should be evident at a fairly shallow depth of soil. As it gets colder they will dig themselves deeper in the soil and effectively hibernate till the weather warms in spring.
The options are really for a spring treatment, either; nematodes - (non-pesticide) - but only effective in warmer soil temps (10 degrees+) or Merit Turf (granular insecticide).
Not great using MT at this time of year either I am afraid, due to excess rainfall/ cooler soil - label advises preventative treatment in spring.
You may be lucky and soil is still warm enough for nematodes to survive and hunt down the chafer. Otherwise, if you can hold off now, repair the lawn once it cools as best you can then aim for a treatment in spring
Customer knows it is too late now this year. They just want a plan in place for early spring to try and bring it back. Many thanks Richard
chafer grubs have a three year cycle [s,m,l] and the birds seem to rip up the grass and make a right mess on one road I go to they worked there way up the street over a period of weeks as others have said treatment is available but not at this time of year its all down to lawn management over the year, which some people are not willing to pay for
when it cools down the grubs go further down bit like worms
It's a real shame as its a lovely house with a lovely garden which now looks rubbish.
