Artificial grass installation

Hey guys I'm wondering if you can help me.I've had several requests for artificial lawn installations. I'm quite happy to install it as it seems very straight forward. The one question I do have is do any of you know the most economical method of installing the sub base?I was planning on a 75mm layer of clean 20mm stone followed by a blinding of 20mm sharp sand. I would like to use 6mm granite to dust as it compacts harder and drains better but we are in east Devon and I cannot find a supplier. My worry is that using the 75mm layer of stone plus the sharp sand is going to make the work too expensive and I was hoping you guys know of a better method. Please help!! Many thanks!!

  • As i understand it the spec you mention above is only needed if the ground tends to get water logged or is very sandy and light.

Otherwise 50mm MOT as a maximum and 1" of sharp sand is more than sufficient for most domestic jobs. Some artificial grass manufactures even suggest laying on 1-2" compacted sharp sand base if the subsoil is already firm and is additionally compacted with said wacker plate as well.

Im not an expert, but im considering adding installations to my repertoire and ive read so much gumpf online about it over the last month or so that i have plastic grass nightmares!
