Supporting the Landscape Juice Network

Please let me stress before you read on that this site will be forever free to the end user. I will not ask anyone for a penny which I think is important for the concept to be successful. In saying that, there is a cost to me, and in time, I hope that the costs will be met by a site sponsor who shares my vision of a UK wide association that is mutually beneficial. I am trying a little experiment that will help cover some of those costs by adding a new type of advertising opportunity that is simple to use and extremely cost effective for anyone who participates. Look to the right hand side bar and you will see five adverts that look similar to Google. You will see presently that the message is saying advertise here. If you click on the ad you will be taken to a very simple dashboard where you can input your advertising message. Once you have deposited £10 (the minimum payment) you can send your advert live. The minimum cost is 0.50p per one thousand page impressions (edited) and the first person or company who advertises will go to the top. However, if the next one to advertises bids .51p then there advert will occupy the top slot and the .50p advert will drop to second place and so on. In time, the advert will settle on a cost that is a reflection of how much value you will put on the opportunity. The great thing for anyone who uses the service is that it is helping to run the sites costs but with the added bonus that you could win a contract or sell a product that may result in many many times your cost. I wish to add that of course, if you blog, participate in the forum discussions and a frequently offer advice or simply log in, your profile is automatically brought to the top which will give you free advertising opportunities. • Can you clarify the pricing structure ? If I click on an ad, that costs the advertiser 50p. 0.5p, or those amounts for one thousand clicks ?
  • PRO
Hi Nick, think Phil has got a little error in his explanation there, it's not a click-based system.

    It costs 50p per 1,000 page views/impressions.

So if you deposit £10 in your account and you are charged 50p per 1,000 page views, then you advert text will be displayed 20,000 times overall.

If you wanted to continue advertising then you'd add another £10.

But should the ad strip become popular and there are more advertisers than spaces in the strip then you would have to increase your 50p spend, it could be just a penny it could require you to bid £1.

Hope that helps and any questions just add a comment (including questions from others).
  • So Kerrie's comment yesterday that we shouldn't click on her ad because it will cost her money is incorrect - advertisers are simply charged 50p for every 1000 times their ad appears, regardless of whether or not the ad is clicked ?
  • What's the reasoning behind doing it this way rather than following the google model and charging by click thru ?

    Hi Nick

You are correct. An advertiser is charged .50p after 1000 and not the amount of times the add is clicked on. I caused confusion because I had originally planned to do a cost per click but failed to change my explanation.

I am exploring this method of advertising because (I hope) it gives you the advertiser more control of where your advert is appearing. If you choose to place your advert on Landscape Juice then it stays there until you either choose to suspend the advert, your budget runs out or someone outbids you for the slot and you drop down the panel until eventually your ad is not seen unless you up the bid.

I have been looking at a way of making the site pay without penalising every member by the way of a membership fee. However, with this opportunity, members can keep their business visible all the time if they choose.

It is a new system and I hope further options will be rolled out.

It might be of interest to know that I have the option of making the advert a flat fee per month, a cost per click or by page impressions.

"Yes, it runs on the AK battery system. It does also have a variable trigger but it is very sensitive and quite tricky to hold at a very low speed. "
